QUESTION: What was your career track prior to joining the SC SBDC?

ANSWER: I spent 30 years working in media, marketing and strategic communications. My career includes 12 years as Digital Sales Manager at WSPA-TV, as well as positions with The Greenville News, HIS Radio and the Chapman Cultural Center. Much of my work focused on helping businesses navigate changing technology and use digital marketing and advertising more effectively.

QUESTION: What motivated you to become an SC SBDC consultant?

ANSWER: Before joining the SC SBDC, I served on the Spartanburg Area Center Advisory Board and introduced some of my former clients to the SBDC. That experience gave me an opportunity to see the value of the organization and the difference it could make for business owners.

QUESTION: What is the best piece of advice you would offer an aspiring business owner?

ANSWER: I’ve always said, “A plan doesn’t have to be written in stone, but it must be PRESENT.” A business without a plan or strategy cannot expect growth.

QUESTION: What area of interest/expertise do you offer your clients?

ANSWER: Digital marketing and advertising strategy. I help clients better understand how to reach their audiences, make informed marketing decisions and use their resources effectively.

QUESTION: Since becoming an SC SBDC consultant, what is your greatest accomplishment?

ANSWER: Learning how to make the SC SBDC memorable to someone introduced to it for the first time—even after they walk, click or scroll away.

QUESTION: Why is the SC SBDC an important resource for business owners in South Carolina?

ANSWER: The SC SBDC gives business owners access to experienced professionals who can help them make informed decisions, identify opportunities and develop strategies for growth. Research also shows that established businesses working with the SBDC have grown beyond the national average.

QUESTION: What is your favorite part about working for the SC SBDC?

ANSWER: The “big picture.” Even beyond the economic impact, the work we get to do can transform lives for the better.

QUESTION: What quote/saying/maxim expresses your philosophy toward work and/or life?

ANSWER: “A plan doesn’t have to be written in stone, but it must be PRESENT.”

QUESTION: Describe your approach to counseling.

ANSWER: I start with a conversation that uncovers the true needs of the business, then work with the client to explore the road map for getting where they want to go.

QUESTION: What keeps you busy when you're not at work? What is your hobby and/or passion?

ANSWER: My art! I’ve turned my passion for art and illustration into a growing creative business that includes art prints, books, model kits, speaking engagements and museum exhibitions.
