QUESTION: What was your career track prior to joining the SC SBDC?
ANSWER: Prior to joining the SBDC, I spent many years building a career rooted in helping people understand their money and use it with purpose. I started in corporate accounting and financial analysis, including 12 years as a Financial Analyst, 4 years in manufacturing accounting, and time with one of the largest banks in the country. But my heart always pulled me toward small business owners. That's what led me to co-found my own business, where I poured into small business bookkeeping, tax preparation, seminars, and financial coaching. Every credential, every role, it all built toward this moment of serving entrepreneurs at a deeper level.
QUESTION: What motivated you to become an SC SBDC consultant?
ANSWER: This one is personal for me. I've lived the entrepreneurial journey. I've watched my own family navigate the highs and the hard parts of business ownership. I also watched my own parents navigate the difficult journey. And I know what it feels like to carry that weight, the finances, the decisions, the uncertainty. That's exactly why I'm here. I want to walk alongside business owners during one of the most transformative seasons of their lives and make sure they never feel alone in it. I believe with everything in me that small businesses are the backbone of our economy, and when we pour into them, we're pouring into families, communities, and generations. My purpose is to help entrepreneurs build businesses that don't just survive but thrive, businesses that support their dreams and secure their families' futures.
QUESTION: What is the best piece of advice you would offer an aspiring business owner?
ANSWER: I want every entrepreneur to know that they have the power to create lasting generational change through their work. Their past does not define their future, and it's never too late to start building the business—and the life—they envision.
One of the most important steps you can take is establishing strong financial habits from the very beginning. Keep organized records, save receipts, track business mileage, and maintain accurate financial statements. While these tasks may not be the most exciting part of entrepreneurship, they are essential. Good financial documentation helps you maximize tax deductions, remain compliant, and demonstrate credibility when pursuing funding or growth opportunities.
Success isn't built on big moments alone. It's built on consistent, disciplined practices. A strong financial foundation creates the stability and confidence needed to grow a business that can have a lasting impact for generations.
QUESTION: What area of interest/expertise do you offer your clients?
ANSWER: I specialize in helping small businesses build strong financial foundations by making financial management practical, understandable, and actionable. My goal is to simplify complex financial concepts so business owners can confidently interpret their financial statements and use that information to make informed decisions.
With hands-on experience supporting entrepreneurs, I believe financial clarity is one of the greatest advantages a business owner can have. When you understand the story your numbers are telling, you can lead with greater confidence, make strategic decisions, and create a stronger path for sustainable growth.
I'm passionate about empowering business owners with the knowledge and tools they need to take control of their finances and achieve long-term success.
QUESTION: Since becoming an SC SBDC consultant, what is your greatest accomplishment?
ANSWER: I officially stepped into my role as Greenville Area Manager and Business Consultant on July 1, so I'm still in the beginning stages of this journey. My greatest milestone so far has been making the transition from facilitating regional training as an external partner to actually leading our local office.
QUESTION: Why is the SC SBDC an important resource for business owners in South Carolina?
ANSWER: Because every entrepreneur deserves access to professional guidance, and it shouldn't depend on their budget. The SC SBDC provides structured, high-quality consulting and training completely free of charge, and that's powerful. We take what feels complex and overwhelming, the regulations, the financial hurdles, the startup questions, and we break it down into clear, manageable steps. This isn't just a resource center. It's an engine for community transformation.
QUESTION: What is your favorite part about working for the SC SBDC?
ANSWER: What I enjoy most about my work is the opportunity to align my passion with my purpose. I look forward to having the privilege of helping entrepreneurs gain the financial clarity and confidence they need to make informed decisions and build businesses that create lasting impact.
One of the most rewarding aspects of my role will be seeing business owners move beyond uncertainty and recognize their potential for long-term success. Celebrating client milestones, supporting entrepreneurs through every stage of growth, and collaborating with a team that values integrity, transparency, and servant leadership will make this work especially meaningful.
For me, this is more than a profession. It’s an opportunity to help individuals, families, and communities build stronger futures through successful entrepreneurship.
This role isn't just a job for me. It's mission in action.
QUESTION: What quote/saying/maxim expresses your philosophy toward work and/or life?
ANSWER: One quote that has become a guiding principle in both my work and my life comes from Oprah Winfrey:
"Let excellence be your brand. When you are excellent, you become unforgettable."
That quote perfectly captures how I strive to show up every day. I believe excellence isn't about perfection. It's about consistently doing the right thing, serving others with integrity, and delivering work that creates lasting value.
Whether I'm helping an entrepreneur understand their financial statements, prepare for funding, or strengthen the financial health of their business, my goal is to provide a level of service that builds trust and empowers confidence. Excellence is reflected in the small, consistent choices we make, and over time, those choices define our reputation and our impact.
For me, excellence isn't just a standard of performance. It's a commitment to serving others in a way that leaves them stronger, more informed, and better equipped to build a lasting legacy.
QUESTION: Describe your approach to counseling.
ANSWER: My approach to counseling is centered on education, empowerment, and practical guidance. I strive to create a supportive, judgment-free environment where clients feel confident asking questions and developing solutions. By simplifying complex financial concepts and providing actionable strategies, I help entrepreneurs make informed decisions, strengthen their businesses, and build a foundation for long-term success. My goal is to equip every client with the knowledge and confidence to lead their business with clarity and purpose.
QUESTION: What keeps you busy when you're not at work? What is your hobby and/or passion?
ANSWER: When I'm not working, I enjoy spending quality time with my family, who are my greatest source of joy and inspiration. I also love journaling as a way to reflect, grow, and stay grounded. Serving in ministry is a meaningful part of my life, allowing me to give back to my community and live out my faith through service. Music is another passion of mine, and I especially enjoy singing, whether in worship or simply for the joy it brings. Together, these activities keep me balanced, energized, and connected to what matters most.
